POST-DOCTORAL POSITION AT IMPERIAL COLLEGE

BASIN ANALYSIS/SEDIMENT ROUTING SYSTEMS

A 2-year or 3-year postdoctoral position is available immediately to work in
Professor Philip Allen’s group at the Department of Earth Science and
Engineering, Imperial College London. The position is part of a broader
research programme on integrated sediment routing systems, which is
investigating the dynamics of terrestrial sediment routing from source to
sink, including sediment release from upland catchments, dispersal in river
systems, and coupling with tectonic deformation.

The successful postdoctoral worker will investigate the dynamics of cratonic
basins generically, especially their sediment routing systems involving
far-field transport. Concepts will be tested in and applied to Lower
Palaeozoic examples in eastern North America and in the relatively poorly
known examples of north Africa. The project will benefit from collaboration
with geodynamicists at the Norwegian Geological Survey. The research
programme is funded by Statoil.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant branch of Earth science. Some
experience in basin analysis would be an advantage but is not a
pre-requisite. Those interested should make pre-advertizement contact with
Professor Allen at philip.allen@imperial.ac.uk
